Twenty five teams from throughout the New York metropolitan are participating in the Young Israel Basketball league this year.

There are 3 divisions; junior (6-8th grades), intermediates (9-10th grades). and seniors (11-12th grades). Students who do not play on a high school varsity team may participate.

Every team is connected to a school or synagogue. The season takes place during the second semester each year. All the regulations are delineated in the Official Handbook.

Coordinated by Commissioners Irv Bader and Judah Rhine, the teams participating  (between the 3 divisions) include;

Bais Medrash of Harborview, Be'er Hagolah, Flatbush Park Jewish Center, Lev Bonim, Mashadi, Mesivta Ateres Yaakov, Kehilla Bais Yehuda Tzvi of Cedarhurst, Yeshiva Rtzad, Shaarei Zion, Synagogue for the Arts, Tiferes Torah, Yam Hatorah, Yeshiva Heichal HaTorah, Young Israel of Jamaica Estates, Young Israel of Manhattan, Young Israel of Staten Island, Young Israel of Woodmere, and Young Israel of West Hempstead.

The teams pay for the gyms, coaches and uniforms. They pay a participation fee to Young Israel, which covers salaries for referees and trophies. Each team gives the National Council a certificate of insurance.

We are interested in expanding into a Girls League in the future.

Teams who are interested in joining our league should contact Judah Rhine for more details.
