Senior Centers
The National Council of Young Israel is the proud sponsor of 4 senior centers in the City of New York. Though each meets in a Young Israel synagogue, each of the Senior Centers is governed and operates independently of the synagogue where it meets and the National organization. The clients they serve hail from both their general local community and the membership of their synagogue.
The City of New York’s Department for the Aging (DFTA) funds these senior centers through sponsoring agencies, which in our centers’ case is Young Israel Programs, Inc. Young Israel Programs is a subordinate of the National Council of Young Israel and has its own officers- Hillel Adleman, President; Kevin Leifer, Vice President; Henry Alper, Vice President/Director of Senior Programming. Alan Pritzker is the contacts at the National Council of Young Israel office.
Each senior center’s budget must be approved annually by the City though they may and are encouraged to raise money to supplement those funds. For more information about NYC’s senior centers, click here.
