YOUNG ISRAEL BLASTS EUROPEAN UNION'S
ANTI-ISRAEL LABELING RULES
The National Council of Young Israel (NCYI) today blasted a decision by the European Union (EU) to institute a mandate that will require special and distinctive labeling for products produced or manufactured by Israeli individuals or entities.
"The decision by the European Union to single out certain Israeli products because of where they are produced is hypocritical, prejudicial, and a further perpetuation of the anti-Israel animus that is sadly becoming all too prevalent on the world stage. The EU is indiscriminately targeting an area of Israel which was won in a defensive war in 1967 after the State of Israel was attacked by its Arab neighbors, and which has a long and rich Jewish history, including serving as home to one of Judaism's holiest sites, the Cave of the Patriarchs, which is where the matriarchs and patriarchs of the Jewish nation were buried thousands of years ago. This is in essence encouraging a boycott of Israeli products and goods, which is anti-Semitic at its very core. Rather than using its power to take substantive steps towards ending the latest rash of Palestinian-Arab terror that is targeting innocent Israelis, the European Union has inexplicably chosen to focus its energy on a divisive and discriminatory initiative that will further exacerbate an already unstable situation. We urge the leadership of the EU to reassess its labeling decision and rescind what can only be described as an anti-Semitic and anti-Israel act."
